Dog Groups
There are 9 diffrent dog groups.There is the Hearding group, Hound group, Toy group, Non-sporting group, Sporting group, Terrier group, and Working group. Registered breeds are assigned to 1 of 7 groups representing characteristics and functions the breed were origonally breed for.

- Herding group
- All breeds share the ability to control the movement of other animals
- Are intelligent and respond great to training excercise
- Examples: Australian Cattle Dog, Collie, and the Mudi
- Hound group
- Most breeds share the common ancestral trait of being used for hunting
- Demonstrate a phenominal gift of stamina
- Examples:Pharaoh Hounds, Norwegian Elkhounds, and Afghans
- Toy group
- Takes up little space
- Easy to control
- Examples:Chihuahua, Maltese, and the Papillon
- Non-sporting group
- Most breeds are very sturdy
- Varied collection in terms of size,coat,personallity
- Chow Chow, Dalmatian, and French Bulldog
- Sporting group
- Naturally active and alert making them likeable well rounded companions
- Participate in hunting and other field activities
- Example:pointers, retrievers, setters and spaniels
- Terrier Group
- Fiesty and energetic dogs
- Bred to hunt and kill vermin
- Examples:Cairn terrier, West Highland White Terrier, and the grand Airedale Terrier
- Working group
- Bred to preform jobs such as guarding property, pulling sleds, and preforming water rescues
- Intellegent and strong but unsuitable as pets for average families
- Examples: The Doberman Pinscher, Siberian Husky,and Great Dane
